Malted Barley
All our beers begin life as grains of premium English barley.
In the malting process, these grains are soaked in water and allowed to germinate.
The grains are then roasted to develop their distinguishing characters giving our beers their rich flavours and colours.
Remember we use only premium barley malts sourced from local maltsters, and never cheap cereal alternatives.
Hops
We select the finest hop varieties from UK growers.
To achieve the complex hop characters in our beers The Brewmonkey adds different varieties of natural whole hops to the brew at precise points during the boil.
Bittering hops go into the brew near the beginning to balance and offset the sweet flavour of the malt.
We then add the most aromatic of our hop selection at the end of the boil to infuse our beers with a beautiful hoppy aroma.
Yeast
We use only the finest yeast to produce our flavourful beer.
The Brewmonkey ensures the fermentation profile is carefully monitored which helps to produce the wonderful aromatic qualities found in all of our ales.
We use different yeast strains to produce small batches of beers with individual character.
Water
Sheffield’s location affords us a pure and plentiful source of water.
Our brewing water is supplied from the peak district, recharged by the rain falling in the nearby foothills and higher peaks. We carefully treat and monitor this very important raw material to ensure the highest quality.
We are fully committed to preserving the environment and being a sustainable business within our local community, so we always strive to use this valuable resource efficiently. Hot water from cooling within the brew process is recycled by being reused for the next brew. This ensures we reduce our total water usage and the energy needed to reheat the water for the next brew.
Wastewater is kept to a minimum but any generated at the brewery is treated sensitively before being discharged.
